AI That Works Where You Work: Email, Text, and Slack

Most AI tools ask you to come to them. You open a new tab, log into a new app, and paste in context the tool does not already have. For a five-minute experiment, that is fine. For something you are supposed to rely on every day, it is a dealbreaker. The friction of switching is exactly where good intentions go to die.

So we made a deliberate decision early on: OpenAssistant does not have a home you have to visit. It works where you already work — in your email, your text messages, and your Slack.

The hidden cost of "just one more app"

Every new app carries a tax. There is a login to remember, a layout to learn, and a habit to build. Worse, it fragments your work: now your context lives in five places instead of one, and you are the one shuttling information between them.

An assistant that lives in a separate app inherits all of that friction. You have to remember to use it, teach it what is going on, and then copy its output back into wherever the work actually happens. That is not delegation. That is more work with extra steps.

Meet people where they already are

The tools we chose are not random. They are where real coordination already happens:

• Email is where scheduling, introductions, and external conversations live. So OpenAssistant reads the thread, drafts the reply, and handles the follow-ups right inside it.
• Text is the fastest way to ask for something on the go. A quick message — "move my 3pm to tomorrow" — and it is done, no app required.
• Slack is where teams actually talk. Your assistant can be pulled into a channel or DM and act like any other teammate — because to everyone else, it basically is one.

Because it lives in these channels, there is nothing new to open and nothing new to learn. You just talk to it the way you already talk to everyone else.

Context comes for free

There is a bigger advantage to living in your existing tools than convenience: context. When your assistant is already in the thread, it does not need you to explain who someone is, what was decided last week, or what the meeting is about. The information is right there.

A separate app starts every task from zero. An assistant embedded in your inbox and chats starts with the same shared history a good human colleague would have. That is what lets it take real action instead of just generating text you have to fix.

One assistant, every channel

Being in multiple places only works if it is genuinely the same assistant everywhere. Ask something over text and follow up in email, and OpenAssistant remembers. Your preferences, your people, and your ongoing tasks carry across every channel, so it never feels like you are starting a new conversation with a stranger.

The goal: change nothing about how you work

The best assistant is the one you barely notice adopting, because it slotted into the tools you were already living in. No migration, no onboarding marathon, no new tab that quietly gets abandoned after a week.
